Good thing Trump owns the golf course he's ruining

Short takes from a journey through a disorganized mind.

Ugh.

A short video seemingly gone viral today shows America's First Golfer doing something really disgusting.

No, Donald Trump didn't drop trou and take a dump on one of the greens. When it comes to damage to a course, he did even worse. Most of the courses I've played in more than 20 years as a golfer are very protective of their greens. You're not allowed to walk on them with metal spikes and you're expected to repair whatever damage your ball or club might have done.

There is never any reason -- except for maybe a 300-pound man collapsing and needing to be moved -- to drive a golf cart onto a green.

Unless you're Trump. Then you can do whatever you want whenever you want wherever you want. Playing on his Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, N.J., recently, Trump drove his golf cart right onto one of the greens.

If you watch the video, you'll see there was no valid reason for driving onto the green except to show off.

This is a course people pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to join, and I can't imagine how annoying it must be for them to have a putt go off track because the wheels of a cart had marred the surface.

I'm pretty sure the women's golf tour wasn't thrilled to see it either, especially since the 2017 Women's U.S. Open will be played there in less than three weeks.

I can only imagine the reaction if Trump drove up to a green and saw another golfer -- a paying customer -- with his cart parked on the green. It wouldn't be pretty. And when I see Trump sitting on the green in his cart, I'm reminded of something parents say to misbehaving children.

"This is why we can't have nice things."

Who ever knew we would have a president who was pure id?

Last year, when the Chicago Cubs ended a 108-year drought and won the baseball World Series, folks looked at their talent and figured they would dominate baseball for a decade.

2016
With amazing young talent like Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, their 103-58 record looked only like the first step.

Nearly all the pundits figured they would be right in the thick of things again this season.

It might still happen. It would be silly to write them off, but after Thursday afternoon's game with Milwaukee, their record is 42-43. That means they would have to go 61-15 in the next 76 games to equal last year's record.

They're just 4 1/2 games out of first place, so there's still a chance.

But 42-43? Sounds like the old Cubs.

A list I saw on Facebook the other day rated the states from 1-50 for the worst summer.

I figured correctly that Southern and Southwestern states would top the list -- no surprise there. The worst state was Mississippi, followed by Louisiana, Arizona, Alabama and Arkansas.

My own state of Georgia was sixth.

Again, no surprise.

I played nine holes of golf today. The course was wide open and I could easily have played 18, but the heat index was 101. That's Jawja in July.

So which ones are the best? Only one of the five surprised me at all. From 46-50, or 5-1 for the best, 46 is Hawaii (no shock), 47 is Oregon (no shock), 48 is Rhode Island (no shock) and 50 is Washington State (best summer of all, no shock).

The only shock to me was learning that the state with the second-best summers in the U.S. was ... Minnesota?

MINNESOTA?

Ya, you betcha.

Well, they've got all those lakes.

It could have been worse. Just outside the five best is New Jersey, at least when the governor doesn't close the beaches.
