Gretchen Whitmer is trying to save the people of Michigan whether they want her to or not.
And Donald Trump is going to cause trouble no matter what the Michigan governor does.
With the number of Americans dead from the Coronavirus heading toward six figures and beyond, Trump is trying desperately to keep people from blaming him.
As of today, more than 72,000 of Trump's constituents have died, and more than 30 million have filed for unemployment.
Many companies have been reporting that their business is off as much as 90 percent. When unemployment numbers for April are announced Friday, they may be as high as 20 or 30 percent of the workforce.
Don't forget that in the middle of March, when we learned that we had a horrible shortage of tests, Trump told everyone it wasn't his fault.
Instead, all he has done is make trouble for folks like Whitmer, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other state leaders who are prioritizing keeping their constituents alive.
Experts have made it very clear that people who can't stay at home should wear masks and practice social distancing when they go out.
If you look at the photo of protesters in Michigan, many of them aren't even six inches apart.
And masks? They don't need no stinkin' masks. Trump doesn't wear masks and Mike Pence was photographed visiting the Mayo Clinic and not wearing a mask either.
Role models?
Only when they're modeling false macho.
Meanwhile, Americans are falling in love with Cuomo to the point where some Democrats are wondering if he could replace Joe Biden as the putative nominee.
There's even a song about him.
